Melbourne/Naarm band Malibu Spacey makes music that’s all washed-out 12 string acoustic
guitars, intricate lead lines, three-part vocal harmonies and noodly bass grooves. The sound
takes pieces of 60s and 70s rock and folk, classic pop, glam, garage and dreamy psych. Slot
the band somewhere between contemporary artists Angel Olsen and the Lemon Twigs, and
the poppy, lush sounds of old guard bands like the Byrds and the Beatles.
In 2022, Malibu Spacey released debut four track EP Something To Do In The Desert,
produced by Rohan Sforcina at Head Gap and mastered by Joe Carra at Crystal Mastering.
2023 singles Electrocutie, Old Soft Shoe and Danger Danger have received regular airplay
across community stations, including PBS, RRR, 2XX and 2ser. The band’s debut album,
Good In Small Doses, is out now.
Malibu Spacey is Evan Jones, Zoran Lasich, Antony Tatangelo, Tim Clarke and James
Howlett.
